What is memorialization?

Memorialization is the process of remembering a loved one through a ceremony – formal or informal – and signifying the life with some type of symbol. While this symbol may take a number of forms – from poetry and plantings to civic holidays and celebrations – contemporary western society most often chooses to personalize memories with permanent memorials.
