Cold Spring Granite Headquarters Awarded LEED^® Gold Certification

Project Background

As part of the final phase of Cold Spring Granite’s consolidation plan from its downtown location to the West Campus in Cold Spring, the construction of the new corporate headquarters began in late 2007. The 22,500 square foot facility, designed and constructed following the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) rating system, will increase productivity and make for a more efficient and integrated operations. The new corporate headquarters houses approximately 150 personnel and is one of seven buildings on the 435-acre site.

Strategies and Results

The building was designed to meet high-performance “green building” concepts using guidelines that create a healthier, more environmentally responsible office space. Strategies in the new headquarters building includes:

The reuse of materials from the former office as well as integration of Cold Spring Granite’s own products, and other low-emitting materials.
The new facility has a bike rack and shower/changing room to promote alternative transportation. Preferred parking for low emitting/fuel efficient vehicles and car/van pool parking is also available.
Cold Spring Granite increased energy efficiency by 33.6% beyond baseline building performance.
Ensured healthy indoor air quality through close control of the building’s heating and cooling, and made sure that the building was equipped with adequate ventilation and proper filtration.
Expansive use of natural light and the minimization of water use through low-flush toilets and reduced flow faucets.
The water saving features provides a total water savings of 50% of baseline annual consumption.
Storm water retention ponds are used to control storm water runoff and recharge area groundwater. One hundred percent of water consumed from the onsite well is treated and infiltrated back into the ground.

The main goal of Cold Spring Granite’s office complex addition was to reduce our carbon footprint, travel time, emissions, and increase efficiency. Using Local Material

Supporting the use of indigenous resources and reducing the environmental impact resulting from transportation, the new building was constructed using Cold Spring Granite’s own granite and limestone quarried and fabricated from within 250 miles of the construction site.
