Philadelphia Korean War Memorial

Philadelphia Korean War Memorial

Opportunity

In 2002, Philadelphia Korean War Memorial was dedicated to honor 610 Servicemen, from 5 Pennsylvania counties, who died in combat during the Korean War. The design is a formation of four 16-foot tall granite clad columns surrounded by four granite walls - each column representing one year of the Korean War.

Details

  • Polished Academy Black was the material of choice to create a clear background for the Memorial's artwork

  • Photographs enlarged to proportions of all sizes were transferred and carved in stone realistically portraying the scenes and people documented on film

  • Original art such as emblems and service medals were recreated, capturing subtle details in stone for generations to see

  • Facts along with names of soldiers in final formation are engraved in polished granite enabling visitors to remember and understand the depth and bravery of those being honored
