Wacker Drive, an historic 1920’s two-level roadway that travels alongside the main branch of the Chicago River and bears the addresses of many of Chicago’s notable landmarks, is bustling once again after a 4-year reconstruction. The purpose of the reconstruction was to replace the existing deteriorated structure and to widen the street to accommodate current vehicular standards and traffic movements. The challenge was to upgrade the structure while preserving the defining characteristics of the architecture.
