6.16 INSTALLATION OF AREA No. 16

76 mm Pavers over Latex-Modified Type S Mortar Bed with Parged Backs

6.16 A INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

The concrete slab was cleaned of foreign materials and thoroughly wetted prior to installation of pavement system. The pavement setting bed consisted of Type "S" masonry mortar (1 part portland cement to part hydrated lime to 4 parts washed sand) which was hydrated with 50% potable water and 50% Latacrete 3701 Grout & Mortar Admixture. Thickness of the setting bed was approximately 35 mm. The granite pavers were a combination of 756 x 375 x 76 mm sawn edge units and 172 x 172 x 76 mm split edge units. All paving units had a thickness tolerance of mm. The bottom surfaces of the granite pavers were parged with neat cement (portland cement and water) mixture prior to placement on the mortar bed. The pavers were aligned and leveled maintaining 10 mm joints between sawn edges and 20 mm joints between split edges.

Joints in the west of the area were grouted with Type "N" mortar per ASTM C270 without any additives. Joints in the east of the area were grouted with Type "N" mortar that was hydrated with 50% potable water and 50% Latacrete 3701 Grout & Mortar Admixture.
