1.0 ABSTRACT

Natural Stone products have provided pavement surfaces of unsurpassed durability and beauty for many centuries. A wide variety of installation methods have been used with widely varying success. Vehicular traffic, moisture infiltration, and freeze/thaw cycles are suspected to be the most common factors contributing to early failure of most pavement systems.

In August of 1994, Cold Spring Granite Company initiated a research project for the benefit of the natural stone industry. The goal of this research project is to establish the costs, limitations, and service lives of a variety of natural stone installation systems in an actual in-service environment. This project is believed to be the most comprehensive research of its kind.
