PHASE I - GENERAL CONSTRUCTION NOTES

The area for the test mockup had been undisturbed for several years prior to construction of the mockup, with a relatively large volume of passenger vehicle traffic traversing the area. Compaction of the existing soil was confirmed by an independent testing agency via ASTM D2922-91 and ASTM D698-78 to be 100 to 101% (Reference Appendix A).

The site was excavated only to the depth required to facilitate placement of the concrete and/or other substrate materials.

A 600 mm wide by 200 mm deep curb of +-27 MPa (+-4,000 psi) concrete was formed around the perimeter of the construction and reinforced with (3) continuous #5 (16 mm diameter) deformed rods. Areas that required a sub-slab were completed with a 100 mm thick concrete slab reinforced with 6x6x#10 welded wire mesh. The sub-grade under the slab was mechanically vibrated prior to placement of the concrete. The top surface of the concrete slab had a "broom" finish to encourage bonding with the setting bed materials. Compressive strength of the concrete was confirmed by an independent testing agency via ASTM C39 (Reference Appendix B).

Placement of the concrete curb was completed during the week of August 15, 1994. The concrete slab was completed on August 22 and 23, 1994.
