3.0 SITE DESCRIPTION

The entry drive to one of Cold Spring Granite Companys employee parking lots provided an ideal site for the test mockup. In a typical year, the site will experience ambient temperatures ranging from -40 degrees celsius to +40 degrees celsius, 70 freeze/thaw cycles, 60,000 passenger vehicles, snow melting chemicals, and mechanical snow removal. The entry drive is perpendicular to the access street, which ensures that the passenger vehicles are turning as traversing the test area, and therefore inducing lateral loads to the pavers in addition to vertical. Heavy traffic occurs on an extremely limited basis, and for the purpose of performance evaluation is negligible.
