COLD SPRING, Minn., - Three 504-crypt garden mausoleums were recently added to the Holy Cross Cemetery in Mays Landing, N.J.
Designed and installed by Granit Bronz Mausoleums, the mausoleum division of Minn.-based Cold Spring Granite Co., the structures complete the second phase of a project, an inner semi-circular arrangement of a total of five mausoleums. They are part of a longer-range plan developed by the Catholic Diocese of Camden, N.J., that will feature a total of around 14 mausoleums in a radial layout.
The development underscores a rapidly growing demand for above ground entombment and mausoleums with artistic features. Two murals depicting the life of Jesus Christ will be featured on finely grained and rich Carnelian granite on each mausoleum, creating a moving collage that starts with the Annunciation and ends with the Ascension. The Carnelian contrasts with the warm, polished Sunset red crypt fronts, creating an effective combination of granite colors.
The Holy Cross Cemetery mausoleum project is also another example of how more cemeteries are planning long-term garden mausoleum projects through the phased development of a series of structures that fit into a wider landscaped garden theme.
