Ground-breaking on innovative garden mausoleum commissioned by Archdiocese of Newark commences
June 18, 2004
COLD SPRING, Minn., - Ground-breaking on an innovative 1,280-crypt, 400-niche garden mausoleum in Holy Name Cemetery, Jersey City, NJ., recently took place.
Commissioned by the Archdiocese of Newark and designed by Granit Bronz Mausoleums, the garden mausoleum maximizes space within an oblong tract of land with a stylistic repetition of forms that are created with five interment alcoves lined parallel to each other. Featuring four types of granites, each alcove has an ornamental gate. A cross is sandblasted and etched above each entrance.
Wall planes are punctuated with recessed vertical round-top panels that look like windows. "The overall effect is a structure that gives you an open and friendly feeling," says Granit Bronz Designer Brad Barthelemy, who designed the structure.
Developed on a design-to-install turnkey basis, the Holy Name Cemetery garden mausoleum is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2005.
